Overview
Expanded metal is a type of metal sheet that has been processed by cutting and stretching to create a mesh-like pattern.
The process involves cutting and stretching the metal sheet in a way that leaves it with diamond-shaped holes and raised strands. This creates a strong and lightweight material with excellent ventilation, drainage, and filtration properties.
Expanded metal is available in a variety of materials, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and copper. The choice of material will depend on the specific application and desired properties, such as strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion or rust.
Expanded Metals Manufacturer
We can offer expanded metal manufacturing services to produce customized based on customer specifications. This may involve using specialized machinery and techniques to create expanded metal sheets, grating, or other products in various materials, sizes, and finishes.
We can also provide fabrication services such as fencing, enclosures, grating, screens and assist customers in selecting the appropriate expanded metal product for their application and developing customized solutions.
METAL TERMINOLOGY
SWD and LWD are two important measurements that are used to describe the physical characteristics of expanded metal.
- SWD stands for Short Way Diamond and refers to the distance between the centers of two adjacent strands on the short axis of the diamond shape in the expanded metal. In other words, it is the measurement of the distance between two opposite points of the diamond shape.
- LWD stands for Long Way Diamond and refers to the distance between the centers of two adjacent strands on the long axis of the diamond shape in the expanded metal. It is the measurement of the distance between two opposite points of the diamond shape, but along the longer axis.
The SWD and LWD measurements are important because they help to determine the size and spacing of the diamond-shaped holes in the expanded metal, which affects the material’s strength, weight, and other properties.
Expanded metal sheets with smaller SWD and LWD measurements typically have smaller diamond-shaped holes, which can provide greater strength, while expanded metal sheets with larger SWD and LWD measurements typically have larger diamond-shaped holes, which can provide better ventilation and drainage.
